1. State your hypothesis and describe how it could help solve your problem.
If we put a tooth in a sugared drink more than likely it will change colors. The problem is soda causes tooth discoloration. We think it will change from being white to yellow or even a little brown. And that the coca-cola will make it change to brown/yellow. The sprite would make the tooth have some cracks and change from normal size to small, because of all the acid and sugar it has in it. We think the soda Sunkist would have the least effect on the tooth because the acid level isn't as high as the other sodas that where using. We will put a tooth in soda over a period of 3 days then we will take it out and collect the data. We would measure it with a tooth whitening chart. We believe that it will do this based off of our research. We predict that the sprite will slightly tarnish the tooth by turning it a light yellow or off-white (#3/4 on the white chart) and that the Sunkist will have a very similar outcome. We also predict that the Coca-Cola will turn the tooth from being yellow or light brown (#7/8 on the white chart). My hypothesis is the tooth in Sunkist will be yellow after the 2 day. The rest will be white #5 according to the tooth whitening chart after the first day. We also predict that the tooth in Sunkist will be white #8 on the fourth and last day. I think the tooth in Coca cola will be white #10 on the last day, the tooth in Sprite will be white #9 on the last day. Our hypothesis is that the soda is going to change the color of the teeth. We also think that the teeth will change colors depending on the color of the soda we put it in. For example if we put a tooth in orange Sunkist the tooth might turn orange. We also think that Coca Cola will be the worst for your teeth. Also based on our research, we found out that soda also could cause sensitivity towards our teeth.
